If I didn't have such a headache right now I would have read it in more detail.

I did stop by the IEW booth this weekend at GHEA, and I honestly have to tell you that you know this program far better than those who were working in the booth. The representative was able to tell me only a little bit about the program and its approach, and when I told her I had "such and such" program I'd used before and could simply buy a new consumable workbook for less than $20, and what could she say to convince me otherwise, she really couldn't offer me any advice either way. ;)Michelle Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08447079002738068749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53873677645881723.post-22276643184226958532011-05-07T20:04:15.358-06:002011-05-07T20:04:15.358-06:00I got it today!!! I'll give you ...Are you thinking about Lauren? I'll give you a couple of answers. First, I think Trina is pretty average as far as language activities go.

I think that it is reasonable that Trina will get through the lessons for reading in a schoolyear. She may still be working through the "library" phase. In other words, she'd be reading pretty solidly, but not quite at the point where I'd be sending her off to read herself, she'd still be in the "read to Mom" phase.

As far as writing, yikes, I think for a kindergartner, you're looking at more a full year of work, or about 1.5 school years.

Now, what I've read about it is that this a a schoolyear of work to get through the library phase and all the writing... but I think that is more for the 1st-2nd grader. I think for a kindergartner, it is going to be a little longer...

And my plan is to be doing probably 4 days a week.Debrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08416139988162419457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53873677645881723.post-71172488618394978822011-05-06T21:34:58.774-06:002011-05-06T21:34:58.774-06:00How long do you think it would take an average stu...How long do you think it would take an average student to work through the material? I think it would be great to do with Luke & Levi... it's probably about how it will work for Trina and Richard, honestly.

Continuing on with SWR would be just fine. Really, the AAS piece is self-contained. So if you haven't started it with Levi, you could wait to start until the point where PAL suggests it (basically after you have worked through learning to write all the letters)Debrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08416139988162419457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53873677645881723.post-28191755384362120752011-05-06T19:36:09.544-06:002011-05-06T19:36:09.544-06:00Rodna -- no, they don't need to know all the l...Rodna -- no, they don't need to know all the letters/sounds. We've been doing some narrations with our history this year, but more would be better plus all the other aspects would be amazing. Question for you. Do you think it would be fairly easy to do without using AAS? Like SL, can I just ignore that part of the schedule/plan? We use SWR (which I do like a lot) and I'm not wanting to switch back to AAS.Alane @RaHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10149985251463900132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53873677645881723.post-83537288592755279552011-05-06T19:15:20.754-06:002011-05-06T19:15:20.754-06:00So, do you think they need to know all of their le...So, do you think they need to know all of their letter sounds before starting this program? So the initial copywork is simply writing out letters... and yes, you can use pretty much whatever type you want.

As far as teaching letters and sounds, it moves pretty fast. I'm trying to get Trina through All About Reading pre-1 first, so she is pretty good with the letter sounds. I'm not sure though, after writing this up, I want to start NOW. Of course, I can't until my other sticker thing shows up.

I'm a bit excited about this. Well, my in-laws paid for it, but it is on it's way!

I didn't see this post until now.

I only got the reading part though.

i have a question for you. I couldn't tell from online whether or not it teaches the basics too.

I mean, will it teach him the letters and sounds as well? It almost seems to start a little later than that.

I know that the writing part teaches the sounds of the letters as they write them, but also that it has this in the appendix of the reading program.

can I somehow use HWT with this, as this is what we use? I didn't really care for the handwriting part of the writing program.

Thanks for any help with this.Rodnahttp://trainingchildrenupforchrist.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-53873677645881723.post-59188846528965886842011-05-06T09:40:23.265-06:002011-05-06T09:40:23.265-06:00Sounds really cool.Sounds really cool.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00952198097668424498noreply@blogger.com
