Summer Reading Programs

It is that time again!  Details about summer reading programs are starting to come out.  We are planning to participate in at least three of them this summer.  Maybe more.

The absolute best one is done at our local library, Pikes Peak Library District.  Connor will be a volunteer at this again, and he and William will be doing the teen program.  The other three will do the kids' program.  Prizes include a free book, plus coupons for meals, various toys, Sky Sox tickets, t-shirts, or other such stuff.  This runs June 1-July 31.

Barnes & Noble has a program where you read eight books and you get to choose a free one from their list of available titles.  This is for grades 1-6, so my three younger boys will be able to participate.  This runs May 25 through September 7.  I'm hoping to convince them to choose Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, and Cricket in Times Square... but we'll see!

Borders has a similar program for kids 12 and under.  Theirs requires 10 books and ends August 26.  There are some fantastic titles to choose from here -- Ramona the Brave, Dear Mr. Henshaw, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Johnny Tremain, The River.  I'll definitely get the three boys doing this one too.

Poor Connor.  He only gets to participate in the one program.

Of course, I'm tempted to go down to Pueblo (we have library cards there too) and join their summer reading program.  Or La Junta.  How many library programs could we do in one summer?  Hmmm....

Anyone know of something else?  We love summer reading programs around here!
