Book Review: Essentials for Life

My latest BookSneeze book is Essentials for Life by Marcia Ford.  Subtitled Your Back-to-Basics Guide to What Matters Most, it contains fifty chapters for daily, or weekly, reading.

Each chapter follows the same basic format, with a question such as "Have you ever wondered about the resurrection -- how it happened, why it happened, if it happened?  How about this:  have you ever wondered how different your life would be had the resurrection never occurred?  There is no doubt about that one.  Your life would be dramatically different."

Following that is roughly four pages of discussion.  Sidebars in each chapter include a scripture reference or two, a quote from someone famous, and a section called "interesting to note."  The chapter ends with a colored section called "what's essential" that gives a short summary of the key point and some do's and don't's.

What I like about this is that it is a pretty quick read, but it does leave me pondering.  I'm not looking for some deep, theological tome.  At this time in my life, I appreciate the back-to-basics approach, and I appreciate graphics that make it easy for me to navigate each chapter.

Disclaimer:  As Booksneeze Blogger, I did receive this book for free from Thomas Nelson.  No other compensation was received.  The fact that I received a complimentary product does not guarantee a favorable review.  It does guarantee a review. A fair review. But I am not going to praise something unless I think it deserves the praise.  If I don't like it, you'll hear that.  And hopefully with enough detail as to why so you can decide for yourself if what I hate about it makes it perfect for your family.  For more about my take on reviews, visit my blog post here.
